Yeongsanjeon Hall of Geojoam Hermitage of Eunhaesa Temple, Yeongcheon
영천 거조사 영산전 · 永川 居祖寺 靈山殿

Eunhaesa was founded in 809 by the state preceptor Hyecheol and first called Haeansa; fire took many of its buildings more than once, and most of what stands now is recent. Yeongsanjeon, the central hall at Geojosa, is plain and simply built, standing on a high platform reached by stone steps. It was first raised in 1375 and holds an image of Shakyamuni and five hundred and twenty-six stone arhats. The hall is seven bays wide and three deep, under a gabled roof that takes the shape of the character for person seen from the side. The brackets carrying the eaves sit only on the tops of the columns, in the column-head style. Yeongsanjeon keeps that style as it stood at the turn from Goryeo to Joseon with unusual fidelity, which is why it is valued as highly as it is.
