Gilt-bronze Standing Buddha Triad with Inscription of "Gyemi Year"
KOGL Type 4Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

A triad set against a single large mandorla: the principal Buddha at the centre with an attendant bodhisattva either side. The topknot protuberance of the central Buddha is large and tall for the size of the whole. The long, smiling face bends slightly forward; the shoulders and chest are a little narrow but round and strong. The robe over both shoulders falls in V-shaped folds at the front, with hems flaring to the sides like a bird's feathers. The right hand is raised palm outward, fingers up; the left is palm outward, fingers down, with two of them bent — a distinctive touch. The bodhisattvas either side are shown as though hanging from the edges of the mandorla, wearing crowns that rise in three prongs. Their bodies are handled like the Buddha's, but their robes cross in an X at the front and their hands differ. The mandorla, finely lined with rising flame, is pointed like a boat; round the central Buddha the halo and body aureole are raised and filled with lotus, vine and honeysuckle. The pedestal is a cylinder flaring at the base, carved with lotus. It has much in common with the gilt-bronze triad inscribed with the year sinmyo, and follows the Buddhist sculpture of the Chinese Northern and Southern Dynasties; the inscription on the back of the mandorla dates it to 563, the tenth year of King Wideok of Baekje.
