Bronze Bell of Yongjusa Temple
용주사 동종 · 龍珠寺 銅鍾

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr1.44 metres tall, 0.87 across the mouth, and a tonne and a half of bronze. It was cast in the early Goryeo period in a manner still following Silla practice, and brought here when Jeongjo restored the temple to pray for his father. The tube at the top carries the sound; the loop beside it is a dragon lifting itself on both feet with a jewel in its mouth. The upper band is edged with beads and filled with half-circles of flowers set alternately, and it meets the four square panels that each held nine lotus buds — only one panel keeps its full set. Flying figures are cast on the front and back, Buddha triads on the sides, all of them riding cloud with their robes lifting. The lower band is edged with beads like the upper one but filled with a vine scroll instead, which is this bell's signature.
