Green-glazed Burial Urn (Granite Case)
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

A golpo is a bone urn used in Buddhism to bury the remains after cremation; they were common from the late Three Kingdoms period to Goryeo. This one, found inside a granite outer case with a round knob on its lid and cut into petal-shaped corners, is a Unified Silla bone urn 16 cm high and 15.3 cm across the mouth, with green glaze on body and lid. The body is filled with dotted lines and flowers, as though stamped with a seal. A few such urns survive, decorated with stamped patterns and then glazed, and this is the finest of them.
