Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krObjects from an Early Iron Age tomb site at Bisan-dong in northern Daegu. The bronze dagger is a typical slender bronze dagger, sharp at the point, with a ridge running to the tip of the blade. It has a node in the middle, and at the end of the hilt two waterbirds turn their heads to face each other. This ornament had already been found near Pyeongyang, and it shows a link with the Bronze Age cultures of the north. The dark bronze dagger has a lustrous hilt surface and no other carving or ornament. With it are fittings — a hilt ornament, scabbard fittings, a chape — and other fragments. The hilt ornament is oval, shaped like a ginkgo nut, with continuous parallel lines round its edge. The scabbard fitting is an oval bronze ring, thought to have reinforced and decorated a wooden scabbard. The chape, 3.75 cm long and 2.9 cm across its base, decorated the end of a wooden scabbard. There is also a fragment thought to be part of a hilt. Because blade, hilt and chape were made separately, the dagger is thought to have been made in the south of the peninsula.
