Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA Gaya gold crown and gold accessories said to have been excavated at Goryeong, North Gyeongsang. The crown is 11.5 cm high and 20.7 cm across the base: four ornaments shaped like grass flowers stand on a broad band worn round the head. The band is dotted along its upper and lower edges and decorated with round gold discs. Comma-shaped jewels hang here and there, but these are said to have been added after it was found. The grass-flower ornaments are fixed with gold wire at four symmetrical points, with round gold discs here and there. The accessories mix round, ginkgo-shaped and flower-shaped pieces and comma-shaped jewels with gold rings and gold pendants, so it is not clear where or how they were attached to the crown. The grass-flower ornaments are of the same type as the Baekje gilt-bronze crown from a jar burial in Naju, but interestingly differ from the crowns found in Gyeongju. Notable too is the crown's ornament: four grass-flower uprights with their tips shaped like pen nibs, with horn-like projections on either side from which comma-shaped jewels could be hung — an unusual feature.
