Bronze Mirrors from the Tomb of King Muryeong
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

Three bronze mirrors found in the Tomb of King Muryeong in Gongju: a mirror with deities and animals, a mirror with animal band inscribed 'may your children and grandchildren prosper', and a mirror with animal band. The mirror with deities and animals imitates a type of Eastern Han Chinese mirror with a square frame and TLV pattern. Inside it are half-naked figures and an inscription, common on Han mirrors. The mirror inscribed for descendants is a copy of a Han mirror with an animal band. Around the central knob are nine bosses, and within are large and small circles and seven raised bosses. An inscription runs round the inner border but is too indistinct to read. The mirror with animal band is likewise a copy of a Han mirror carved with animal designs; but its lines are thicker and its pattern less precise than on the Han mirrors.
