Footrest of King Muryeong
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

A funerary wooden footrest found inside the coffin in the Tomb of King Muryeong, made to support the king's feet. A trapezoidal log, broad above and narrow below, is hollowed deeply in a W at the centre to rest both feet. The whole is lacquered black, and strips of sheet gold about 0.7 cm wide were cut to make a tortoise-shell pattern, though some have fallen away. Six-petalled gold flowers decorate the corners and centres of the pattern, and from the middle of each hangs a boyo — a trembling ornament once worn in women's hair — adding to its splendour.
