KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

A Silla belt (gwadae) found in Cheonmachong Tomb. Cheonmachong Tomb was known as Gyeongju tomb no. 155 until its excavation in 1973 found, with a gold crown, bracelets and many other objects, the painting of a heavenly horse (cheonma) that gave it its name. A gwadae is a belt with square metal plates fixed on a textile band; this one is 125 cm long, with pendants 73.5 cm long. It joins 44 pierced plates, each with nine holes round the edge for fixing to leather, and has a buckle at each end. Thirteen pendants hang from it, linked by oval and square gold plates. Belt and pendants were found inside the coffin, worn at the waist.
