Gold Crown from the North Mound of Hwangnamdaechong Tomb
황남대총 북분 금관 · 皇南大塚 北墳 金冠

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA gold crown found in Hwangnamdaechong Tomb. Hwangnamdaechong Tomb is a Silla tomb of the Three Kingdoms period in the King Michu's Tomb area of Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju; its two mounds, north and south, are joined like a gourd. A representative Silla crown, it is 27.5 cm high, with pendants 13–30.3 cm long. At three points on the front of the headband stand uprights of 山 shapes stacked in three tiers, and at the two back ends antler-shaped uprights. Blue-green comma-shaped jewels hang from it — sixteen on the 山 uprights, nine on the antlers and eleven on the band — and round gold ornaments are placed in balance to add to its splendour. The pendants hang long from thick rings, three on each side in symmetry, the outermost longest and shortening inward. At the end of each, blue-green comma-shaped jewels like those on the band hang on the inside and leaf-shaped gold sheets on the outside. When found, the crown and pendants were separated. It has the typical form of the Silla crown and, with more comma-shaped jewels than any other, is all the more splendid.
