Gold Waist Belt from the North Mound of Hwangnamdaechong Tomb
황남대총 북분 금제 허리띠 · 皇南大塚 北墳 金製 銙帶

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA gold belt (gwadae) and pendants (yopae) found in the north mound of Hwangnamdaechong Tomb. Hwangnamdaechong Tomb is a Silla tomb of the Three Kingdoms period in the King Michu's Tomb area of Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju; its two mounds, north and south, are joined like a gourd. A gwadae is a belt with square metal plates fixed on a textile band; this one is 120 cm long, with pendants 22.5–77.5 cm long. Made of 28 plates, it seems from the small holes round them to have been sewn onto something like leather. Its thirteen pendants are joined to the belt by hinges. Belt and pendants were excavated in perfect condition, which makes them important for understanding how Silla belts were worn and in what order the pendants were hung.
