Celadon Lidded Bowl and Saucer with Inlaid Dragon, Phoenix, and Peony Design
청자 상감용봉모란문 합 및 탁 · 靑磁 象嵌龍鳳牡丹文 盒 및 托

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA Goryeo lidded celadon bowl, 19.3 cm high, 18.5 cm across the mouth and 6.8 cm across the base. It survives complete with lid, stand and even a spoon, and the lid's knob is shaped as a squirrel. Around the squirrel is a band of double lotus and a band of waves in black and white inlay, with phoenixes and dragons below. A notch is cut at one edge of the lid so that it sits close to the bowl with the spoon in it. A band of fret runs round the rim of the bowl, with cranes and clouds inlaid regularly below. Double circles on the surface enclose peonies in black and white inlay, and chrysanthemums fill the remaining space. The glaze is yellowish green in places but generally clear. The inlay over the whole of lid, bowl and stand stands out, and since it gathers almost all the inlaid motifs of the time, it is thought to have been used by the royal family.
