Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA treatise by the Indian bodhisattva Asanga, translated by Xuanzang of Tang in twenty volumes arranged in the order of the Thousand Character Classic; this is a copy from the first carving of the Tripitaka Koreana. The Xianyang shengjiao lun, also called the Xianyang lun or Guangbu zhongyi lun, is one of the treatises of the Beopsang (Yogacara) school, written to bring out the key contents of the Yogacarabhumi Sastra. This is volume 12 of twenty, from the latter part of the chapter on grasping pure meaning, section two of eight, one of eleven chapters; it is a first carving. It is 45.8 cm wide and 28.6 cm high, on mulberry paper. The first carving numbers its sheets with 丈 where the recarving uses 張, and it omits the colophon at the end, which the recarving has. The first carving generally shows missing strokes, but none appear in this volume 12. It keeps its original cover and roller from the time of printing, and its paper and printing suggest a first-Tripitaka print of the eleventh century. It is a precious source for seeing the original form of the first Tripitaka.
