Sumanotap Pagoda of Jeongamsa Temple, Jeongseon
KOGL Type 4Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

Sumanotap is a stone pagoda in imitation of brick that survives complete from base to finial. Reflecting its limestone region, it is built of dolomite, and it is a special pagoda raised on a high cliff out of the belief that it would strengthen the declining energies of mountains and rivers and out of the cult of relics. Its repair records and history can be traced from sources including its pagoda inscription stone, and it is the only pagoda built in imitation of brick in Korea to enshrine true relics of the Buddha, which gives it ample historical, artistic and scholarly value as a nationally designated heritage (national treasure).
