East Three-story Stone Pagoda at Dansoksa Temple Site, Sancheong
산청 단속사지 동 삼층석탑 · 山淸 斷俗寺址 東 三層石塔

In front of the site of the main hall at Dansoksa Temple Site stand two pagodas, east and west; this is the one erected to the east, a typical Unified Silla-period pagoda with a three-storey body set upon a two-tiered base. The lower tier of the base was made using L-shaped stones, formed together with the ground stones. Above this, a further tier of the base was added, upon which the body of the pagoda was placed, with body stones and roof stones stacked alternately. At the top, part of the finial remains above a square base stone. Overall, the proportions between top and bottom are well balanced, and the body of the pagoda diminishes appropriately in size towards the top, giving it a beautiful appearance. Compared with the west pagoda that stands alongside it, the scale and technique are almost identical, showing that both were made in the same period. It well demonstrates the construction techniques of the late Unified Silla period.
