This stele was erected to commemorate the reconstruction of Bogwangsa Temple, which stood in Imcheon-myeon, Buyeo-gun, and it records the achievements of State Preceptor Wonmyeong (Chunggam, 1275–1339), who led the reconstruction, together with the process of the rebuilding itself. It originally stood at the site of Bogwangsa Temple on Seongjusan Mountain in Buyeo-gun, South Chungcheong Province, and was moved to its present location at the Buyeo National Museum in 1963. The inscription was carved in two stages: the front was inscribed at the time of construction, in 1358, the seventh year of King Gongmin of Goryeo, and the back was added later, in 1750, the twenty-sixth year of King Yeongjo of Joseon. Today only the body of the stele survives, without its base or capstone. The edges of the body are carved with a band of vine-scroll pattern in relief. The stone is gneiss, and the upper corners have been cut off diagonally. Also known as the "Reconstruction Stele of Bogwangsa Temple," it provides valuable material for the study of the simplified stone-stele style of the late Goryeo period and of the history of Buddhism.
