This stele stands at Silleuksa Temple and records various details about the construction of Daejanggak, a depository built to hold Buddhist scriptures, which once stood on the hill west of Geungnakbojeon Hall. A base stone is set on an elongated rectangular foundation stone, with the body of the stele erected on top and a roof stone placed above it; stone pillars are set up on either side of the body to hold it firmly in place. This practice of flanking the stele body with stone pillars is a feature that appears in the late Goryeo period and is noted as a distinctive characteristic. The inscription, carved in the calligraphy of Gwon Ju, cannot be read in full because the body of the stele is badly damaged. On the back of the inscription are listed the names of those who took part in producing the Buddhist scriptures (the sutras, precepts and treatises) and in erecting the stele. The stele was erected in the ninth year of King U of Goryeo (1383). Whereas earlier steles typically had a turtle-shaped base and a capstone carved with a dragon's head, by the late Goryeo period these came to be simplified into a square base and a roof-shaped capstone, and this stele is an example of that later form.
