Stone Seated Buddha at Galhangsa Temple Site, Gimcheon
김천 갈항사지 석조여래좌상 · 金泉 葛項寺址 石造如來坐像

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis Buddha statue, 1.22 m tall, stands on the site of Galhangsa Temple and is badly damaged in places. It has a round face bearing a mysterious smile, and the eyes, nose and mouth are rendered realistically. The chest is broad and the waist slender; the robe covering the left shoulder clings closely to the curved body, forming soft drapery lines. The right hand, with the palm placed on the knee, points downward, but only the wrist and back of the hand remain, and the left hand is also partly broken. The statue is presumed to have been made around 758, the fifteenth year of King Gyeongdeok, the date when Galhangsa's three-storey stone pagoda was erected.
