This is a Unified Silla stone pagoda standing in front of Daeungjeon Hall of Cheongnyangsa Temple. Cheongnyangsa Temple is located at the foot of Maehwasan Mountain, and according to the Samguk sagi, this is said to be the place where Choe Chi-won once resided. The pagoda has a three-story body raised on a two-tiered platform, and beneath its base stone it forms a wide area bordered with granite, a rare feature. The lower platform above the base stone is made up of four stones, with the middle stone formed from a single piece. On both the lower and upper platforms, pillar shapes are carved at the centre and corners. The four corners of the uppermost stone of the platform are slightly raised, a distinctive feature, and above it are two tiers of supports. The body of the pagoda has its body stones and roof stones each made from a single piece, with pillar shapes carved at each corner of the body stones. The roof stones have five tiers of supports beneath them; their sloping surfaces are gentle, but the four corners curve up lightly. This pagoda achieves a beautiful balance in every part, and its carving technique is light and elegant, making it a representative work among pagodas built in the ninth century of Unified Silla. When the pagoda was repaired in 1958, a round cavity for holding sari (relics) was found in the third-story roof stone.
