The Gilt-bronze Standing Bodhisattva is a small work, only 15.1 cm tall, that clearly displays the features typical of bodhisattva images of the Three Kingdoms period. It wears an unusually shaped crown, and its face, somewhat long in proportion to the body, carries a faint smile. Though small in stature, the figure appears dignified and firm; the outline of the body is largely hidden beneath the robe that envelops it. The robe is symmetrical, crossing in an X shape and rendered as if fluttering, giving a sense of vigour. The hands are shown in the manner popular in Three Kingdoms-period Buddhist images, made disproportionately large relative to the body: the left hand hangs down with the little and fourth fingers bent, while the right hand is raised with all fingers extended. Beneath the two feet is a round, inverted-triangular pedestal fitted with a long tenon meant to be inserted into a lower base, but that lower base has since been lost. Although the pedestal and mandorla are missing, the statue survives in an almost complete state, and its hand gestures and X-crossed drapery clearly display the characteristic features of Three Kingdoms-period bodhisattva images.
