Stele of Yeongok-ri, Jincheon
진천 연곡리 석비 · 鎭川 蓮谷里 石碑

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stele bears no inscription, and the identity of its subject cannot be confirmed. It is impossible to know whether the text was simply never carved or was later erased. Even the head of the stele has only a blank rectangular space prepared for the stele's title, with no writing in it. The base, an important part supporting the body and head of the stele, is generally carved in the shape of a turtle's head, but here it is closer to the head of a horse. Nine dragons are carved on the upper part of the stele, realistically rendered and executed with excellent carving technique. Judging from its form and workmanship, the stele is presumed to date from the early Goryeo period.
