This large Buddha statue, 5.38 metres in total height, is carved from a single stone, showing the Buddha's body along with a halo (gwangbae) representing the light radiating from the Buddha's entire body. On the bare head is a large topknot-shaped protuberance (ushnisha), and the face is square with ample volume. On the neck, the three folds (samdo) are clearly rendered, and the robe covering both shoulders shows U-shaped folds falling to the ankles. Because of the thick robe, only the two hands emerge from the sleeves; the right hand hangs down with the palm facing outward, while the left hand faces upward. The halo is boat-shaped and divided into a head halo and a body halo; the head halo is carved with a lotus design, while the body halo is carved with a cloud design. The plump face, the somewhat unnatural proportions of the body, and the formalised robe folds all indicate that this is a Buddha statue in the style fashionable in the early Goryeo period. This statue is especially similar in size and style to the Stone Standing Buddha at Yongdamsa Temple Site in Namwon.
