Seokbo sangjeol is a book compiled at the command of King Sejong after Queen Consort Soheon died in 1446, the twenty-eighth year of his reign, to pray for the repose of her soul. Prince Suyang, later King Sejo, with the help of Kim Su-on and others, recorded the life and family of Sakyamuni Buddha and translated the text into Hangeul. Volumes 6, 9, 13 and 19 are from the first edition, printed with gabinja movable metal type. At the front of the book a red seal reading "Gyojeong" (proofread) is stamped, and within the volumes, misprinted characters and apparent errors from the original draft have been corrected, with the corrections marked in the margins outside the printed text, confirming that this is, literally, a proofreading copy.
