Gold Earrings
금귀걸이 · 金製耳飾

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese gold earrings, of unknown provenance, are 9 cm long, with a large ring 3.6 cm in diameter. The large ring is divided into sections resembling a tortoise-shell pattern with gold wire, and along both sides of these lines it is decorated with granulation, tiny grains of gold like grains of rice attached to the surface. At the points where the tortoise-shell pattern branches, and at the centre of the inner face, circles made of gold wire and gold granules are placed; around each circle, six small leaf-shaped motifs made of gold granules point outward toward the corners. The oval middle ring connecting to the large ring is also decorated with an engraved pattern. Hanging from the middle ring is a pendant decorated with several small heart-shaped ornaments attached by gold wire. These ornaments are linked in two tiers, upper and lower, and at the end hangs a large ornament in the shape of a grass seed pod. The surface of this seed-pod-shaped ornament is entirely covered with granulation work. These earrings are an outstanding piece, notable for the fine granulation work covering the entire surface of the large ring.
