Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krArtifacts Excavated from the Tombs, Goryeong (Presumed) refers to two groups of artifacts said to have come from tombs in the Goryeong region of North Gyeongsang Province. Goryeong was the base of the state of Daegaya during the Three Kingdoms period, and it was here that a splendid Gaya culture flourished until the region was conquered by a Silla invasion in the 23rd year of King Jinheung (562). Today many Gaya-period tombs are clustered in Jisan-dong in Goryeong-eup and the surrounding area, and this assemblage is extremely important for understanding Gaya culture of the time. Artifact Group I comprises: beads, 500 pieces; stirrups, one set of two pieces; a girdle pendant in the shape of a whetstone, one piece; a long sword with a goblin-mask decoration, one piece (four fragments); a long sword with a triple-ring pommel, one piece (five fragments); a long sword with a triple-leaf pommel, one piece (six fragments, including an accompanying small sword); a long sword, one piece (one fragment); a small knife with silver fittings, one piece (one fragment); an iron sword, one piece (two fragments); horse-trapping pendants in heart-shaped leaf form, four pieces; and horse bells, five pieces. Artifact Group II comprises: horse-trapping pendants, ten pieces (two in fish-tail form and eight in heart-shaped leaf form, one of which is joined to a strap-junction fitting); a saddle-bow fragment, one piece (two fragments); and strap-junction fittings, twenty-five pieces (thirteen decorated with lotus-flower designs and twelve with dangling pendant ornaments).
