Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe Earthenware Bowl with Raised Pattern is an early Neolithic vessel excavated from the Yeongseon-dong shell mound in Yeongdo-gu, Busan, measuring 12.4 cm in height and 16.4 cm in diameter. A short spout is attached to one side of the rim, allowing the contents to be poured out, and the vessel is distinctive for the raised decorative pattern running below the rim. The decoration was made by attaching an appliqué clay strip in a W shape and then pressing notches into this strip to heighten the decorative effect. The clay body is yellowish-brown, turning darker and blackish towards the bottom. Vessels of this type were made in the early Neolithic period, and raised-pattern earthenware has likewise been found at the Dongsam-dong shell mound, also in Yeongdo-gu, Busan.
