Hwangnamdaechong Tomb, a Silla-period tomb in the area of King Michu's royal tomb in Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju, consists of two mounds joined together in a gourd shape, one to the south and one to the north. These gold bracelets and rings were found in the northern mound. The bracelets measure roughly 7.5 cm in diameter; eleven were found still worn on the body inside the wooden outer coffin of the northern mound — five on the right arm and six on the left. Ten of these (five on each side) are simple, undecorated pieces made by bending a gold rod into a ring. The remaining bracelet, worn on the left arm, was made by rolling a long gold plate into a circle and then adorning it with an additional gold plate, finely worked and decorated with indigo and blue jade. The rings measure 1.8 cm in diameter, and nineteen were found inside the coffin in all; of these, eleven — five on the right hand, six on the left — were found still worn on the fingers. Two patterns appear among them: one with a lozenge shape at the centre, and another with a lattice pattern engraved in the middle, providing valuable evidence of the use of foreign-derived decorative patterns in ornaments of the period.
