Three-story Stone Pagoda of Yugeumsa Temple, Yeongdeok
영덕 유금사 삼층석탑 · 盈德 有金寺 三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stone pagoda stands in the rear yard of the main hall of Yugeumsa Temple, with a three-story body raised on a two-tier base. The upper and lower tiers of the base are carved with pillar shapes at the four corners and at the centre of each side, and the top surface of each tier has a two-stepped block to support the stone above. The body of the pagoda has its main stone and roof stone carved from a single piece for each story. Each story has pillar shapes carved only at the four corners, with no other decoration. The roof stones have four-tiered eaves supports on their underside, and their four corners curve up slightly. Round stones are stacked in sequence on top, but these were added later and do not sit well with the rest of the pagoda. The degree of reduction in size from one story to the next is well judged, and the fairly large base gives a sense of stability. The single pillar shape carved at the centre of each side of the base, together with the four-tiered eaves supports beneath the roof stones, suggest that the pagoda was built in the late Unified Silla period.
