Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krBulseol daebo bumo eunjunggyeong, often shortened to "Bumo eunjunggyeong" or "Eunjunggyeong," is a sutra recounting the Buddha's teaching on the profound and precious kindness of parents. The Eunjunggyeong was translated by Kumarajiva, and this particular copy was printed in 1378, the fourth year of King U of Goryeo, sponsored by Han Cheon, Daejehak (Grand Academician) of the Yemungwan. It is a woodblock print on mulberry paper in accordion, screen-fold format, measuring 29 cm in height and 11.3 cm in width when folded. As in other editions of the Eunjunggyeong, it depicts the ten great debts owed to parents in both text and image, and the Bulseol bumo eunju taegolgyeong is bound in at the back of the book. This is not only a valuable early edition but, containing as it does a number of finely executed illustrations, is also treasured as an important example of woodblock-printed picture books.
