The Sutra of Perfect Enlightenment, whose full title is Daebanggwang wongak suda rayoui gyeong, was adopted as part of the monastic curriculum and serves as a guide to Buddhist practice. In Korea, Jinul of Goryeo revered it deeply, calling it the 'Youi-gyeong', after which it became widely popular. The Assorted and Annotated Mahavaipulya purnabudha Sutra (The Complete Enlightenment Sutra) is a book in which the Song-dynasty monk Haengjeong summarised and explained the contents of the Sutra of Perfect Enlightenment in eight volumes in accessible terms; of these, volume 3 survives. It is a woodblock print on mulberry paper, measuring 28.1 cm in height and 17.5 cm in width. A record on the last page shows that it was published by Jeong Gong-gwon (1333-1382), a civil official of the late Goryeo period. He held various official posts from the reign of King Gongmin to that of King U, and this book appears to have been published during that time. The calligraphy and the carving of the woodblocks are of excellent quality, and the printing is remarkably clean, as though it had been printed immediately after the blocks were carved. Although the complete text does not survive, it is a Goryeo-period woodblock print notable for the excellent condition of its printing and paper.
