Gilt-bronze Standing Buddha from Borisa Temple Site, Uiryeong
의령 보리사지 금동여래입상 · 宜寧 菩提寺址 金銅如來立像

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe Gilt-bronze Standing Buddha from Borisa Temple Site, Uiryeong was excavated in May 1948 from Borisa Temple on Mount Dogul, Gabeul-ri, Garye-myeon, Uiryeong County, South Gyeongsang Province, and has been kept by Dong-A University since 1981. The topknot-shaped protuberance (ushnisha) on the head resembles an upturned rice bowl, and the mouth is rendered very small in proportion to the full, round face. The robe covering both shoulders is tied in a ribbon-shaped knot at the chest, with fine semicircular folds incised below the abdomen. The right hand is lowered to waist level at the side and the left hand is raised horizontally, both with the palm facing upward. The octagonal pedestal is shaped with the front and back completely pierced through. The statue survives in an overall complete condition, and its carving technique suggests it was made in the late Unified Silla period.
