Worin seokbo is a Buddhist canonical text compiled in 1459, the fifth year of King Sejo, by combining Worin cheongangjigok and Seokbo sangjeol. 'Seokbo' means a chronicle of Sakyamuni Buddha, that is, his life story. In 1446, the twenty-eighth year of King Sejong of Joseon, Prince Suyang, later King Sejo, compiled Seokbo sangjeol by consulting Buddhist scriptures and translating them into Hangeul to pray for the repose of his mother, Queen Soheon. In 1447, the twenty-ninth year of his reign, King Sejong read Seokbo sangjeol and composed hymns of two verses for each episode, and these hymns became Worin cheongangjigok. Worin seokbo, Volumes 17–18, is a first edition printed during the reign of King Sejo, bound as one volume containing two fascicles. It was originally discovered inside the abdomen of a Four Heavenly Kings statue in the Inwangmun Gate of Sutasa Temple in Hongcheon, Gangwon State. Volume 17 is entirely complete, and although the lower part of folio 87 is missing from Volume 18, its overall condition is good. Volume 17 corresponds to verses 311 to 317 of Worin cheongangjigok, and Volume 18 to verses 318 to 324.
