This is the sarira stupa of the late Goryeo monk Bou, who was posthumously honoured as State Preceptor Wonjeung. A body stone was raised on a three-tiered pedestal, and above it was placed a finial of unusual form. The square base stone forming the lowest tier of the pedestal has pillar-shaped carvings at the corners and centre of each side, and its upper surface is carved with a lotus design in bold lines. The octagonal middle stone has a round pillar carved at each corner and is decorated on each face with a large flower pattern. The nearly circular upper stone is carved with a lotus design in bold lines, with a bracken-fern pattern set within each petal. The cylindrical body stone narrows towards the top so as to fit the underside of the roof stone. The roof stone has eaves that are almost horizontal, with a flower ornament rising crudely at each corner, and above the roof stone sits the finial. Since the Stele for State Preceptor Wonjeung at Taegosa Temple, Goyang was erected in 1385, the eleventh year of King U of Goryeo, this sarira stupa is presumed to have been made sometime after that date.
