This book is a Hangeul translation, made and published during the reign of King Sejo of Joseon, of the Commentary on the Prajnaparamita hridaya Sutra (The Heart Sutra) - a commentary compiled by Fazang and others on the Prajnaparamita hridaya Sutra, which had earlier been translated into Chinese by the Tang-dynasty monk Xuanzang. The Prajnaparamita hridaya Sutra, also known as the Heart Sutra, is a scripture used in common across many schools of Buddhism. This translation was carried out at the king's command by Prince Hyoryeong and Han Gye-hui, and was published by the Gangyeong Dogam in 1464, the tenth year of King Sejo. It is the only known first edition to survive, with finely carved woodblocks and a clear, sharp print.
