Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis Gilt-bronze Standing Buddha, held at the Ho-Am Art Museum, is a Unified Silla-period statue, 25.4 cm in height, in good condition. The head is covered with small snail-shell-shaped curls, above which rises a large topknot. The round face has sharply carved eyes, nose and mouth, giving the figure a dignified expression. The robe is worn thickly over both shoulders, and undergarments are shown within the broad U-shaped opening at the chest. The folds of the robe on both legs flow in a U-shaped pattern that reveals the contours of the legs beneath. The right hand is raised with the fingers extended and the palm facing outward, while the left hand faces downward in the opposite gesture. The pedestal on which the Buddha stands is octagonal and carved with lotus flowers, with tall flame-shaped ornaments (gwikkot) rising from its lower tier.
