Gilt-bronze Standing Bodhisattva (1984)
금동보살입상(1984) · 金銅菩薩立像(1984)

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis gilt-bronze standing bodhisattva, 28 cm tall, is held at the Hoam Art Museum. Part of the neck has been repaired and the right hand is missing, but it remains a beautifully modelled gilt-bronze figure. The hair is gathered up into a large knot, and traces remain of part of a crown and the mark where it was fitted. The face carries a gentle smile, and the ears hang down long to the shoulders. The body — with its well-developed chest, a slender waist, and a slim lower body — shows an elegant and refined sense of form. The robe forms wave-like folds, and the drapery over the lower body is thin enough that the outline of the two legs is clearly visible, rendered with long, oval-shaped pleats. With its wonderfully open bodily proportions and gentle expression, this is an outstanding work made in the seventh century.
