Injeongmun is the main gate of Injeongjeon Hall, the central building of Changdeokgung Palace. Several kings of the Joseon Dynasty, including King Hyojong, King Hyeonjong, King Sukjong and King Yeongjo, held their enthronement ceremonies here and ascended the throne. The building has a frontage of three bays and a side of two bays, with a hip-and-gable roof that forms the shape of the Chinese character "八" (eight) when viewed from the side. The bracket sets made to support the eaves are arranged in the dapo style, placed not only above the columns but also between them. The ceiling inside the building is an exposed-rafter ceiling that reveals the timber structure, and the dancheong (traditional multicoloured decorative painting) is done in the simplest manner. As the place where accession rituals were held, Injeongmun is, together with Injeongjeon Hall, the main hall it serves, one of the buildings that best preserves the dignity and formality of a Joseon royal palace.
