The Medium Seungja Chongtong Gun is the only surviving example of its kind, made in 1588, the 21st year of King Seonjo's reign. It is 56.8 cm long, with an inner diameter of 2.3 cm and an outer diameter of 3.8 cm. Its form has six bamboo-like joints, and the chamber that holds the gunpowder is made thicker than the rest of the barrel. A distinctive feature is that the barrel curves slightly from around the fourth joint counting from the chamber towards the muzzle, a design intended to use the force of the gunpowder to send the projectile further upon firing. There were several types of Seungja Chongtong, including the Seungja Chongtong, the Medium Seungja Chongtong, the Small Seungja Chongtong and the Special Seungja Chongtong. According to the Hwaposik Eonhae, a vernacular translation of a manual on gunpowder weapons, the Seungja Chongtong fired 15 iron balls using one nyang of gunpowder at a time, while the Medium Seungja Chongtong fired five iron balls using five jeon of gunpowder. This suggests that it was a portable firearm somewhat smaller in scale than the Seungja Chongtong.
