Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe Vajracchedika-prajnaparamita Sutra, often abbreviated as the "Diamond Sutra," is the fundamental scripture of the Jogye Order and, after the Heart Sutra, the most widely read Buddhist scripture in Korea. This edition was published in 1387, the 13th year of King U of Goryeo, when Yu Gu, Lord of Jinwon, and Gang In-bu, Lord of Jincheon, sought the queen's support for its printing. It is a woodblock-printed book on mulberry paper bound as a single volume, measuring 25.2 cm in height and 15 cm in width. Yi Saek wrote a brief account of the circumstances of its publication, and Gakji did the calligraphy. It was later reprinted by the mountain hermit Jidam, with the participation of Lady Jo, Consort of the Lord of Pungyang, and Jeong Ja-hoe. The cover is a dark blue-black, with the title written in gold characters; it is the same edition as the Combined Volume of the Brahma Net Sutra and the Diamond Sutra (treasure), and its printing and state of preservation are, overall, good.
