Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis wooden seated Buddha is enshrined in the main hall of Bongnimsa Temple. When the statue was regilded in 1978, a record found inside it revealed that the Amitabha Buddha had been made no later than the 11th year of King Gongmin of Goryeo (1362). The face has a dignified, solemn expression, and the weighty body is upright and tilted slightly forward. The robe draping both shoulders is notable for the absence of a knotted sash at the chest and for its distinctive three folds. Overall, it is an outstanding work representative of the late Goryeo period.
