This is a gilt-bronze seated Buddha of the Goryeo period enshrined at Sinamsa Temple. Sinamsa is said to have been built when Gu Ye, a fourth-generation descendant of the Neungseong Gu clan, settled at Gagyo-ri during the reign of King Chungsuk of Goryeo. The overall appearance of the statue is close to that of the Buddha at Janggoksa Temple in Cheongyang, but is somewhat more imposing and full in volume, with a face bearing a weighty, smiling expression. The upper body is large, and the loosely rendered chest muscles follow the same style as the Janggoksa statue. The lower body is broad and imposing, and in particular the depiction of the knee muscles harmonises with that of the upper body. The simple linear folds and even thickness of the robe are similar to the earlier statue, but differ in that the hem falls to the knee from the left sleeve. In addition, the robe draped over both shoulders is very close to that of the Janggoksa statue: a large half-moon-shaped fold over the right shoulder, a crescent-moon shape and collar treatment on the left shoulder, and folds curving down from both arms. The gilt-bronze seated Buddha of Sinamsa is presumed to be a work of the same school as the Buddha statues of Janggoksa and Munsusa, made in the same region in the first half of the fourteenth century.
