Cheontae sagyoui (Essentials of the Four Stages of Teaching in Tientai)
천태사교의 · 天台四敎儀

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a work in which the Goryeo monk Jegwan gathered and systematised Cheontae (Tiantai) Buddhist thought, holding that enlightenment can be attained only when theory and practice come together in harmony. It is a woodblock print on mulberry paper, comprising the first volume of a two-volume work, measuring 24.5 cm high and 16.5 cm wide. According to a colophon written by the elder of Mogam at the end of the book, an old edition had existed, but as its characters were large and the book heavy and inconvenient to carry, the Great Seon Master Goengji had Suyeo transcribe it anew, and it was published by the Gibokdogam (Office for Prayers of Blessing) in 1315, the second year of King Chungsuk. Although this copy was printed somewhat later by the Gibokdogam, it survives in good condition, with the main text fully legible. As a work written by an eminent Korean monk, it is highly valued.
