White Porcelain Bottle
백자 병 · 白磁 甁

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a white porcelain bottle of the early Joseon period, 36.2 cm in height, with a mouth diameter of 7.4 cm and a base diameter of 13.5 cm. From the flared mouth, a long neck flows in a graceful curve down into a full, rounded body, and the wide, tall foot gives the bottle a sense of stability. A bluish-white glaze has been applied evenly over the thick walls, with a soft, gentle lustre. This type of white porcelain is presumed to have been made in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, sometime between the late 15th and early 16th centuries. With its full, dignified and formal shape combined with its soft colouring, it is one of the representative bottles of the early Joseon period.
