동인지문오칠 권7~9 · 東人之文五七 卷七~九

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krDonginjimun ochil comprises Volumes 7 to 9, the surviving portion of an anthology compiled by the late-Goryeo civil official Choe Hae (1288–1340), who selected outstanding poems and prose by scholars of the Goryeo period. Choe Hae was a descendant of Choe Chi-won and was noted for his scholarship, having passed both the state civil service examination and the examination of the Yuan dynasty. Of firm and upright character, after retiring from office he devoted himself to writing, leaving behind, besides Donginjimun, a two-volume literary collection titled Jolgo cheonbaek. In his preface to Donginjimun, Choe Hae termed poetry "ochil," prose "cheonbaek," and parallel prose "sayuk," and gave the combined work the overall title Donginjimun. The anthology is arranged in the order "ochil," "cheonbaek" and "sayuk," and comprises twenty-five volumes in total. Donginjimun ochil is a selection of five-character and seven-character verse by poets ranging from Silla's Choe Chi-won to Oh Han-gyeong and Hong Gan of the reign of King Chungnyeol of Goryeo, compiled with comparative notes and commentary and published at the end of the Goryeo period. This set of Donginjimun ochil is not complete, and even the surviving volumes are missing sections at the beginning and end; nevertheless, as the first copy of Donginjimun ochil ever discovered, it provides valuable material for examining the structure of "ochil." As a Goryeo woodblock edition containing the poetry of Goryeo literati, it is also important material for philological and literary research, and its value as biographical source material on the figures concerned is highly regarded.
