The Bougyeong (Sutra of Precious Rain) explains the Buddhist teachings a bodhisattva must cultivate and the virtues a bodhisattva must possess. This volume, corresponding to volume 2 of the ten-volume Bougyeong, is a transcription in silver script on brown paper of the translation made by Dalmayuji of the Tang dynasty. It takes the form of an accordion-folded book that opens out like a folding screen, measuring 30.5 cm in height and 11.2 cm in width when unfolded. At the beginning of the sutra and beneath the title is marked the character 'cho' (草), one of the characters of the Cheonjamun (Thousand Character Classic), showing that the volume was numbered according to the sequence of that text; the book is stained in places, apparently by damp, as though it had once been kept inside a Buddha statue. Judging from the quality of the paper, the calligraphy of the text, and the Cheonjamun marking, all of which match the treasure-designated Volume 210 of the Transcription of the Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra in Silver on Oak Paper held at Girimsa Temple, this volume is presumed to have been produced around the same time, in the mid-fourteenth century.
