The Ksitigarbha pranidhana Sutra is also known in short as Jijanggyeong or Jijang bonwongyeong. It is a sutra in which the bodhisattva Ksitigarbha vows to teach and transform sentient beings by every means, seeking to save even those suffering in hell for their sins, without discrimination. This edition was first printed in the fifth year of King Seongjong's reign (1474) at the order of the Queen Dowager Jeonghui, to pray for the repose of Queen Gonghye, and was reprinted in the sixteenth year of King Seongjong (1485). It is a woodblock-printed edition on mulberry paper, with its three fascicles — upper, middle and lower — bound together into a single volume measuring 32.3 cm in height and 21 cm in width. At the end of the upper fascicle is a record of bogak, the retouching and reprinting of woodblocks whose printing surface had become uneven or partly worn away; it appears that even this retouched section was not printed immediately but produced later at the expense of donors. The sutra was printed with great care under royal patronage, with the participation of leading engravers of the day together with the queen dowager, grand princes, and monks of high learning and virtue. It is an important source for studying the Ksitigarbha faith and the forms taken by royal Buddhist devotion of the period.
