Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krHeo Jun (1546-1615), acting on the order of King Seonjo, corrected a text titled Chando maekgyeol, compiled by Gao Yangsheng of the Chinese Six Dynasties period, and published it in 1612, the fourth year of King Gwanghaegun of Joseon. Gao Yangsheng's Chando maekgyeol is said to have been compiled by gathering together the pulse theories of renowned physicians from before the Chinese medieval period, such as Xifan, Jiegu and Tongzhenzi. Its contents begin with the basic principles of pulse-taking and go on to describe, item by item, various methods of pulse diagnosis, the five viscera and six bowels, and diagnostic methods for different symptoms, organised into a total of twenty-nine sections. This book is valuable evidence for gauging the level of medicine in the Joseon period, and it appears to have contributed greatly to Heo Jun's later compilation of the Donguibogam.
