Dharani Sutra
대불정다라니 · 大佛頂陀羅尼

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis Dharani Sutra, known as the Daebuljeong Dharani, is one of the dharani most widely circulated in Korea, and represents the mind's realisation of Buddhist truth through the Buddha Daebuljeong. A collection of dharani is called a jineonjip, or mantra collection, and in the Joseon period the Odae jineon jip, which brought together five dharani including the Daebuljeong Dharani, was widely circulated. It is a woodblock print on mulberry paper in an accordion-fold format that can be unfolded like a screen; when folded, it measures 25.6 cm in height and 8.8 cm in width. There is no publication record, so the exact date is unknown, but since the carved characters are considerably worn and the printing is not clean, the blocks are thought to have been carved in the late Goryeo period and the sutra printed in the early Joseon period.
