This work gathers the exchanges between Confucius and the ministers and officials of his day, and his seventy-two disciples, excluding material already incorporated into the Analects, drawing the material together from various books; to it was added a detailed chapter-by-chapter commentary compiled by Wang Guangmo of the Yuan dynasty. It was printed by Bak Eun at the Gangneung provincial office. Bak Eun (1370-1422) was a figure who rendered distinguished service to Yi Bang-won during the First Prince's Rebellion in 1398, the seventh year of King Taejo, and the Second Prince's Rebellion in 1400, the second year of King Jeong Jong, after the founding of Joseon. This edition came about when Bak Eun, on being appointed governor of Gangwon-do province, found that the work had not yet been published in Korea, and had it reprinted there by beongak - re-carving new printing blocks using an existing edition as the model. As a set of printing blocks produced under the direction of a local official in the early Joseon period, the work is relatively fine, and it is valued as material needed for research into the history of publishing culture in early Joseon.
