Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krGyeongnyul isang is a kind of encyclopaedia that extracts the key points from the sutras (gyeong) and the monastic codes (yul) by subject, noting their sources, so as to make them convenient to study. It is thought to have been carved and bound at the Bunsa Daejang Dogam, a regional office for the carving of the Tripitaka, in Namhae, and so is believed to date from the late Goryeo to the early Joseon period. This is Volume 1 of a set of fifty volumes in all. The names of the carvers are also recorded, and the fineness and density of the carving varies according to each carver's skill. This book has a complementary character for the study of the Tripitaka Koreana of the Goryeo period.
